Wiggins, 32, was thrown off his bike when a white Vauxhall Astra Envoy is thought to have pulled out of a petrol station and collided with him.

A police source said his injuries from the crash were thought to be very serious at first, but later it appeared he suffered a number of broken ribs and cuts and bruises.

Sea lice killing 'large numbers' of salmon

Large numbers of free ranging salmon are being killed by parasitic sea lice in European waters every year, an international study has suggested.

The research involved the release of 280,000 tagged salmon smolts into 10 rivers in Ireland and Norway.

A judge has been killed in a bombing in a residential district of Damascus, Syrian state media said.

The Sana news agency said a "terrorist group" planted explosives under the car of Judge Abad Nadhwah in the Barzeh district.

The bomb was detonated remotely, killing him instantly.

Ghana: 'Dozens' Trapped After Mall Collapse

One employee at the scene who declined to be named told AFP around 40 workers were in the building when it collapsed, though he was not sure about the number of customers.

Family members could be seen at the site attempting to call relatives who may be trapped by mobile phone, while scores of rescue workers sought to clear debris and get oxygen masks to victims.

A six-storey shopping centre has collapsed in Ghana, leaving an unknown number of victims trapped in the rubble.

It is thought the top three floors of the Melcom mall in the Ghanaian capital Accra came down.

Bahrain strips Shiite activists of citizenship amid unrest

Bahrain has revoked the citizenship of 31 Shiite activists, the latest clampdown on the opposition amid continued unrest in the Persian Gulf kingdom.

The state-run Bahrain TV announced the move Tuesday evening, citing an interior ministry statement. The television anchor read out the names of the 31 activists, which included Jawad Fairouz, a former member of Parliament for the Shiite opposition group Al-Wefaq, and his brother, Jalal.
