The Coming Crisis called it: Massive quakes now appearing approximately every 188 days (New posts appear below until Wed, midnight)

From as far back as the Elenin incidents of 2011, the Coming Crisis was shouting from the mountain tops that there was some strange synchronicity to these major quakes. At first we thought it might have to do with something with Elenin itself, but we now realize that some other unseen force is behind these major quake events that repeat themselves exactly every 188 days or so. In its latest schedule, it was 187 days:

February 27, 2010: Chile, 8.8 mag
September 3, 2010: New Zealand (Christchurch), 7.0 mag (188 days later)
March 11, 2011: Japan, 9.0 mag, (189 days later)
September 15, 2011: Fiji, 7.3 mag, (188 days later)
March 20, 2012: Mexico, 7.9 mag, (187 days later)
September 24, 2012: ?

What makes this especially disturbing is that the 188-day quakes have just begun to occur these past couple of years, and yet show no sign of abating. What's causing them? The next such event, if it were to occur, would take place around September 25, 2012 according to this schedule.

Ferry sinks in Myanmar delta killing at least 10 as 3 are still missing

YANGON, Myanmar – A ferry has sunk in the Irrawaddy Delta in Myanmar and 10 people have died. Three people are missing, but 72 have been rescued.

State media reported Wednesday that the "Pathein Thu" sank the previous day as it was about to dock at a jetty near the town of Ngapudaw. It had sailed from Pathein on the Pathein River about 85 miles due west of Yangon.

The reports said six people were hospitalized.
The cause of the accident was being investigated.

Boat travel is often used in Myanmar's vast river deltas and coastal regions inaccessible by roads, and accidents are common. Source

Heavy rain disrupts Auckland flights

LATEST: Auckland has been battered by heavy rain and some flights to the city have been cancelled after a severe weather warning was issued earlier today.

A MetService spokesman said heavy falls were expected overnight, with 3.4mm of rain being recorded just after 5pm at Auckland Airport.

"There is a bit of rain with heavy falls and it's very widespread at the moment. We are expecting 30mm to 50mm of significant rainfall overnight," he said.

The MetService said the rain is the result of a new low preparing to make its way over the North Island the MetService said the fast-moving front could bring bursts of severe weather.

Some flights had also been disrupted by the heavy rain.

Foggy weather in the capital has forced the cancellation of some flights from Wellington International Airport.

Six Wellington to Auckland flights have been cancelled due to low cloud along with four Auckland to Wellington flights.
One flight was diverted to Palmerston North and another has returned to Auckland. Read More

Sandstorm hits Xinjiang, China, will likely continue

China's top meteorological authority said Tuesday that a sandstorm has hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and Gansu province amid strong gales.

Visibility has decreased to less than 500 meters in some areas due to the sandstorm, the first to occur in China this year, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).

The NMC forecast that the strong winds battering the region will move east over the next two days, bringing sand and dust to eastern Xinjiang, as well some areas in Gansu, Qinghai and Inner Mongolia.

Temperatures in Xinjiang's capital of Urumqi dropped by nearly 11 degrees Celsius on Tuesday due to a cold front and strong winds.

The strong gales also halted 24 trains on two railways on Monday, according to the provincial railway authority. Source

India overtakes China as world's biggest arms importer

(CNN) -- India has overtaken China as the world's biggest importer of weapons, with Asian nations the most aggressive consumers of military hardware, a new report says.

Between 2007 and 2011, India's business accounted for 10% of the global arms market, according to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). South Korea was next, accounting for 6% of sales, followed by Pakistan and China (5%) and Singapore (4%).

Siemon Wezeman, a senior analyst with SIPRI, said India's defense spending reflects its regional security concerns and Delhi's global aspirations.

"India procures arms in relation to its tense relationship with Pakistan and increasingly sees China as a potential threat," he told CNN. "It also wants to assert itself as a major regional or even global power."

Much of this expenditure has focused on the modernization of its armed forces with the purchase of fighter jets and warships, according to The Hindu. Read More

Car bomb hits Somali capital

(CNN) -- A car loaded with explosives rocked the Somali capital Wednesday, leaving one injured and damaging a house nearby, authorities said.

The blasts targeted K-4 square, which includes an intersection of roads that connect the airport to the city center.

African Union troops fighting militants in the nation are stationed near the square because of its strategic position, making it a major target in recent years.

Suspects detonated a car parked beside the square, said Mohamed Mohamud Garar, the local government official in charge of security.

Four suspects are in custody, including one caught with a remote control detonator in his hand, he said. Read More

Iraq bombings meant to target summit security, militant group says

Baghdad (CNN) -- A militant group with links to al Qaeda claimed responsibility for a deadly wave of bombings across Iraq, strikes designed to undermine government security plans for the upcoming Arab League summit.

The Islamic State of Iraq, an umbrella group that includes al Qaeda in Iraq, made the claim in a statement posted on an al Qaeda website. The explosions killed 45 people and wounded hundreds Tuesday.

Occurring on the ninth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the attacks were "coordinated" and launched by "Sunni lions" in Baghdad and other provinces "simultaneously," the online statement said. Sunni lions is an adulatory reference to militants.

The bombings were meant to target the security plan "of the government of fools inside the Green Zone, in preparation of the meeting of Arab tyrants in Baghdad," the statement said. The country is hosting the next Arab League summit March 29. Read More

Colombia: Dozens of guerrillas killed

Bogota, Colombia (CNN) -- Colombian authorities have killed dozens of leftist guerrillas in the past day, the nation's defense minister said Wednesday.

Operations throughout the country led to the killing of 39 suspected members the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and the capture of a dozen others from the rebel group, Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon told reporters.

"This is one of the greatest blows (to the rebel group) in the last five years," Pinzon said.

One operation near the Venezuelan border led to the killing of 36 suspected rebels and the capture of five others, including a top leader of one faction of the rebel group, he said. Read More

Robert Bales Likely to Face Murder Charges for the slaughter of 9 Children and 7 Adults

Washington (CNN) -- Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, who is accused of shooting 16 Afghan civilians, is likely to be charged with homicide Thursday, his lawyer said.

Lead attorney John Henry Browne told CNN that he expects his client will probably be charged with "homicide and a bunch of other charges," and predicted that the case would last two years.

Browne said Tuesday that "there may be explanations" for the alleged shooting this month by his client of 16 Afghan civilians, but -- even if that is what happened -- the government will have a difficult time making its case.

"I don't know if the government is going to prove much," Browne said about the shootings of nine children, three women and four men in a village in southern Afghanistan. "There's no forensic evidence, there's no confessions." Read More

Afghan massacre 'a creation of war'

For most of the media, the story regarding Staff Sergeant Robert Bales has moved to American soil. The U.S. soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians is now under watch at a base in Kansas, with a veritable full-court press ferreting out every detail of his background. Report after report puzzles over the traumas of his years in combat, the intricacies of his personal life, the personality of his lawyer, the shocked disbelief of his neighbors. The story is one of a soldier “gone rogue,” a troubled man who “snapped.” And it is a story my colleagues are telling ably, such as this look at the hidden dangers of brain injuries sustained by American combat troops or this exploration into the emotional world Bales inhabited.

But there is another part of the story that is more important, one that has been cast aside by the current media frenzy. It’s a story that remains in Afghanistan and begins with the names of the 16 Afghan civilians in Kandahar province — including nine children — whom Bales allegedly murdered in cold blood. France Attacks 'could inspire next generation'

Syrian forces take eastern city from rebels

BEIRUT (AP) -- Syrian soldiers backed by tanks seized the eastern city of Deir el-Zour from rebels on Tuesday, the latest opposition stronghold to fall to an offensive by the better equipped Syrian military.

Activist Osama Mansour said government troops and armored cars entered the city about 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the Iraqi border from four sides, sparking short gunbattles with fighters from the Free Syrian Army.

Mansour, reached by telephone in Deir el-Zour, said the rebels quit fighting and took shelter in homes and apartments, fearing that protracted clashes would destroy the city.

Taking back rebel-held cities in the past weeks, government troops have often heavily shelled neighborhoods before sending in troops, killing civilians and damaging buildings.

"They knew they could not hold control of the neighborhoods, so they decided to stop fighting, knowing that the regime would bring in heavy weapons and kill many civilians," Mansour said.

Iran leader: Any attacks bring 'same level' reply

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Tehran will retaliate against any attack by Israeli or American forces "on the same level," Iran's top leader said Tuesday in a defiant address just moments after U.S. President Barack Obama appealed directly to the Iranian people with a message of solidarity.

The contrasting approaches highlighted the broad range of political posturing and tactics as the standoff deepens over Tehran's nuclear program.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, speaking on state TV to mark the Iranian new year, repeated his claims that the country does not seek atomic weapons, but said all of Iran's conventional firepower was ready to respond to any attack.

"We do not have atomic weapons and we will not build one. But against an attack by enemies -- to defend ourselves either against the U.S. or Zionist regime -- we will attack them on the same level that they attack us," he said, using the term Iranian authorities often use for Israel. Read More

Japan urges N. Korea to exercise restraint from rocket launch

TOKYO (Kyodo) Japan's top government spokesman Osamu Fujimura urged North Korea on Wednesday to refrain from going ahead with its plan to launch a satellite in mid-April using a rocket, a move that has sparked international outcry.

''Together with countries concerned, it is important that we urge North Korea to exercise restraint from engaging in an action that will undermine peace and stability,'' the chief Cabinet secretary said in a news conference, referring to the launch that critics say is a disguised test of a long-range ballistic missile.

Fujimura vowed to take ''all possible measures to ensure that the people and properties (in Japan) are safe.''

North Korea announced on Friday that an ''application satellite'' will be blasted off sometime between April 12 and 16 lifted by a carrier rocket to mark the centennial of the birthday of the country's founder, the late Kim Il Sung, which falls on April 15. Despite widespread criticism, the North has said it will go ahead with the launch.

To brace for an emergency, Defense Minister Naoki Tanaka told reporters that a ''decision'' needs to be made to give an order to Self-Defense Forces to destroy North Korea's rocket.

The defense minister said during a parliament session on Monday that he is considering giving such an order if the rocket poses a danger to Japan. Read More

Nerve gas attack anniversary commemorated at Tokyo subway station

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo subway officials commemorated the 17th anniversary of the Aum Shinrikyo cult's 1995 sarin nerve gas attack Tuesday at Kasumigaseki Station.

Twenty-four Tokyo Metro Co. employees observed a moment of silence at the station, one of the Tokyo subway stations where members of the cult released the deadly gas on March 20, 1995, killing 13 people and sickening over 6,000 others.

A stand was set up for commemorators including families of the victims to offer flowers at Kasumigaseki and five other stations.

A 46-year-old man who was injured in the subway attacks said, ''I have come to the commemoration every year hoping that memories don't fade.''

A total of 13 people including Chizuo Matsumoto, the cult's founder more commonly known as Shoko Asahara, have been on death row for masterminding the gas attacks and a series of other crimes. Read More

Osaka stirs ripples with planned anti-nuclear power pitch at KEPCO shareholders meeting

A decision by the Osaka Municipal Government, Kansai Electric Power Co.'s biggest shareholder, to suggest abolishing the company's nuclear power plants at a general shareholders meeting in June has stirred ripples.

The municipal government is expected to ask the Kobe and Kyoto municipal governments, which also hold shares in the power company, to follow suit, but individual shareholders, who account for one-third of the company's shares, could also sway the company.

Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto has underscored the city's right to make proposals as a shareholder from the time of the Osaka mayoral election last autumn. Kansai Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) President Makoto Yagi has sought dialogue with the city, stating, "I'd like to provide a full explanation to win understanding of our business activities." However, guidelines compiled by the Osaka Municipal Government's energy strategy council on March 18 declared "an end to all nuclear power plants as soon as possible" -- seeking complete abolition of nuclear power. Rev Joseph Jeyapaul arrested in India after SEVEN years on the run after 'sexually assaulting 14-year-old girl who sought his advice

A former Roman Catholic priest accused of sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in Minnesota has been arrested in his native country of India, where he was a fugitive for the past several years.

The Rev Joseph Palanivel Jeyapaul fled to southern India after he was accused of molesting Megan Peterson, now 22.

Ms Peterson came forward last fall to say she was abused by Jeyapaul in 2004 when she was seeking advice about becoming a nun.

The Rev. Joseph Palanivel Jeyapaul appeared Monday in a New Delhi court and will be held in custody pending a formal U.S. request for his extradition, to be filed along with case evidence, government officials said.

Texas senator Wendy Davis's office attacked with molotov cocktails

An arson attack on a Texas state senator's legislative offices has baffled police officers.

Officials say two Molotov cocktails were thrown into Texas State Senator Wendy Davis’ Forth Worth office Tuesday afternoon.

But they have no idea who it was who entered the West 7th office and threw the firebombs.

Senator Davis was not in her office at the time, but two of her staff members were. No one was injured.

Davis, a Democrat who joined the Senate in 2009, spoke out about the attack in a Tuesday night press conference. Read More

Police clear 300 Occupy activists from New York square after another night of protests

The resurgence of the Occupy movement showed no sign of letting up last night as more scuffles broke out in New York during confrontations between riot police and protesters.

At the movement's six-month anniversary protest on Saturday night, as many as 700 supporters swarmed the area and 73 arrests were made, sparking a renewed call for action.

Last night, some 300 activists gathered at Union Square in mid-town Manhattan, north of their original protest site in Zuccotti Park by Wall Street.

They had moved in on Saturday, continuing the protest by the 99 per cent against wealth inequality.

Around midnight, NYPD officers moved in on the demonstration at the park and told the crowd that the park was now 'closed'.

Over loudspeakers officers explained to activists that if they did not leave they would be arrested.

Social networks were buzzing with multiple reports that one arrest had been made while an ambulance arrived for one pregnant protester. Read More

Mexico Earthquake: Hundreds of homes collapsed

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 shook central southern Mexico on Tuesday, sending terrified workers and residents running into the streets and damaging an estimated 800 homes.

The worst hit area was the town of Iguala, which was close to the epicenter of the quake.

Remarkably, there were no reported fatalities and only 9 serious injuries in spite of the fact that the country was rocked by 18 aftershocks in the hours following the massive earthquake.

The southern border city of Oaxaca was significantly closer to the epicenter of the earthquake, and Malia Obama was staying in the town with a dozen other American students on a school trip.

British Soldier Killed In Afghanistan Blast

A British soldier from 2nd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment (Worcesters and Foresters), has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.

The soldier was working alongside an Afghan security forces' patrol in the Mirmandab region of Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand Province, when he was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED).

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie, said: "Sadly, I must report that a soldier from the 2nd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment was killed in an explosion from an improvised explosive device while working alongside an Afghan security forces' patrol to disrupt insurgents in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province.

"The thoughts and condolences of everyone serving in the Task Force are with his family and friends."

International Manhunt Acid Murders: Murder hunt for family who DISSOLVED victims' bodies in baths... then flushed leftover 'sludge' down the loo

A family of five murdered two men and dissolved their bodies in acid baths at home - before flushing the leftover 'sludge' down the lavatory.

Police said the family are from Holland but used the house in Germany as a 'chop shop' to dispose of their victims, who they killed with an icepick and a semi-automatic gun.

An international manhunt is now underway after two of the killers went on the run in South America.

The horror house was only uncovered after neighbours complained of a 'peculiar' smell coming from the property in Tuddern, in Germany.

And police have not ruled out the possibility that there are more victims as they collect human remains from the sewerage system of the small town.

Revenge was the motive for the murders, said police.

Trey Eric Sesler 'Mr Anime' 'shoots dead his parents and brother in gun rampage at family home'

A 22-year-old who allegedly gunned down his parents and his brother at their home was captured by police yesterday after a day-long manhunt.

Trey Eric Sesler, an online animation enthusiast and critic from Texas, is believed to have had a high-powered weapon on him and body armour when he was arrested on Tuesday night.

The bodies of his parents and brother were discovered around 1pm at their Houston home after police received a call from concerned relatives.

Lawton Ray Sesler Jr, 58, his wife Rhonda Wyse Sesler, 57, and their son, Mark Alan Sesler, 26, were found at the home with multiple fatal gunshot wounds from a high-powered rifle.

Someone reported gunshots coming from the home on Monday evening but when police arrived they discovered nothing.

Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith said: 'This was a scene that had a lot of violence. The house was ransacked.

'Evidence was obtained and it was pretty obvious the connection of the other brother and son to these people.'
