Martin Bunch 'murdered mother-of-three by stabbing her 19 times' after she ended their eight-year affair to save her marriage

A mother-of-three was stabbed to death by her jealous lover after she ended their eight-year affair to save her marriage, a court has heard.

Martin Bunch, 44, is accused of stabbing Jeanette Goodwin 19 times in the chest at her Southend home in Essex and then leaving her to bleed to death on her patio.

A court was told how Mrs Goodwin had reported Bunch to the police for harassment on several occasions following their split and in the months leading up to her death.

Mrs Goodwin, 47, had been enjoying a barbeque with her husband of 21 years, Mark Goodwin, as the couple attempted to rebuild their struggling marriage for the sake of their three children when she was allegedly attacked by Bunch.

A jury at Chelmsford Crown Court, Essex, heard that Bunch forced his way into the garden through a gap in the fence before repeatedly stabbing Mrs Goodwin with a five-inch blade on July 24 last year.

John Dodd QC, prosecuting, said: 'This was a brutal and determined attack by the defendant - a man who was unwilling to accept Jeanette Goodwin had called an end to their affair.
