Maria de Villota is conscious After Crash

A Marussia F1 team driver is said to be conscious after she was seriously injured during a crash during testing.

Female racing driver Maria de Villota is conscious after she was seriously injured when her car collided with a lorry during testing.

The test driver for the Marussia F1 team was rushed to hospital following the accident at Duxford Airfield on Tuesday morning.

The crash with the team's support truck is said to have happened at low speed after Villota pulled off the track in the MR-01 race car following a lap during which she reached speeds of about 200mph.

The crash happened at the start of two days of Formula 1 testing at the site.

A statement issued by the team said: "Further to the accident involving the Marussia F1 Team's test driver Maria de Villota this morning, the team can confirm that Maria was transferred by ambulance from Duxford Airfield to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. Read More
