Employee of a Las Cruces tree removal business hospitalized after being stung by swarming bees, New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — An employee of a tree removal business is hospitalized after being stung multiple times by a large swarm of bees in downtown Las Cruces.

City fire officials say the 52-year-old man scaled a large cottonwood as he and three other employees began cutting the tree's limbs about noon Wednesday when the bees started swarming.

They say the man was treated at the scene and then rushed to Mountain View Regional Medical Center where he's in serious but stable condition. His name hasn't been released.

Two other employees of the tree-removal business were also stung by bees. One was treated at the scene and the other was treated and released from Memorial Medical Center.

Entomologists are assessing how best to eradicate the bee colony believed to be living inside the tree. Source
