Curtis Forteau who 'stabbed Sabatha Tirado, 25, on busy Manhattan street in botched robbery arrested hours later at homeless shelter'

The suspect in a terrifying stabbing on a bustling Manhattan street on Tuesday morning was taken into custody hours after the grisly attack.

Curtis Forteau, who is homeless and no stranger to troubles with law, was arrested hours after the savage assault on 86th St. in Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Police said he’s the man who stabbed 25-year-old Sabatha Tirado and sprayed an unknown substance in her face during a botched purse-snatching.

Ms Tirado was rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for a stab wound to the stomach on Tuesday morning.

CBS New York reported that Forteau was nabbed hours after the attack at a homeless shelter on Wards Island.

He was reportedly identified by police officers who recognised him from a widely-distributed video footage showing a man fitting his description, running from the scene of the stabbing.

The New York Daily News reported that Forteau screamed as he was loaded into a police car. Read More
