Gorbachev: 'Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated' as he laughs off Twitter reports that he had died

As the architect of glasnost - or 'openness' - last Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev should approve of Twitter.

Except that it all went badly wrong yesterday when his death was announced in a Tweet that ricocheted round the world in seconds.

But the 81-year-old Russian statesman took it in his stride echoing Mark Twain and saying: 'Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.'

Laughing at the premature obituaries, the man who changed the world by dismantling the Soviet Union said: 'It's interesting what people are writing. Tell them that I keep living - and keep working.' Read More
