Flood Alert As Wind And Rain Batter Britain



Flood warnings are in force as Britain is drenched in rain and battered by winds of up to 60mph.

The Met Office warned trees could be blown down by strong gusts and issued a severe "amber" weather warning for most of England.

A Met Office statement said: "Very strong winds will develop, particularly for Pennine areas, Wales and the Southwest.

"Gusts of 50-60mph, perhaps stronger over exposed coasts and hills, will likely blow some trees over leading to some localised disruption."

Overnight there was heavy rain over much of England, especially in the south, with more than 40mm falling in some areas. Read More
