Samuel Jones: Fire-fighters find body at bottom of 'uninhabitable' 30-ft hole thought to be that of missing four-year-old boy

Authorities said they have discovered the body of a four-year-old boy who has been missing since yesterday at the bottom of an ‘uninhabitable’ hole.

Samuel Jones, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, was reported missing Saturday night after he was last seen playing in his backyard that afternoon.

Detectives found a lifeless body in a 14-inch-wide hole around 7am this morning near where he disappeared.

The well is more than 30 feet deep.

Carlsbad police spokeswoman Lt. Jennifer Moyers told KOB-TV that police are fairly sure the body is that of Samuel.

She added that retrieving his body could be a timely endeavour, as the walls could easily collapse.

in addition, rescue crews from Roswell are driving in with equipment to help extricate the body.

Ms Moyers said a detective found a 14-inch-wide hole that is likely an old well in a neighbour’s backyard.

Fire-fighters determined no one could survive in the hole.

Ms Moyers said foul play isn't suspected but police are treating the case as a homicide as a precaution. Read More
