Arthur Schirmer the Pastor charged with killing second wife now under investigation over death of the first 12 years ago

A pastor charged with killing his second wife is now also being investigated for murdering his first wife, authorities have revealed.

Arthur Schirmer, 63, former pastor of Reeders United Methodist Church in Jackson Township, Pennsylvania, is awaiting trial over the death of his second wife Betty Jean in July 2008.

His first wife, Jewel Schirmer, died in Hershey Medical Center in April 1999 after apparently falling down the stairs and hitting her head.

John Leahy, chief detective in the Lebanon Country District Attorney's office, said her death has been reclassified to 'homicide', but no charges have been filed.

Schirmer's lawyer said his client denies that foul play was involved in either death.

He said he came home on April 23, 1999, to find Jewel lying at the bottom of some steps and bleeding from the head. She died the next day. Read More
