Iran's interior minister to visit Russia

Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar is scheduled to arrive in Moscow on Sunday to hold talks with Russian officials on matters of mutual interest.

The visit comes at the invitation of the Russian side, the Iranian embassy in Moscow said Thursday.

During his three-day visit, Mohammad-Najjar is expected to meet with Head of Russia's Federal Drug Control Service Viktor Ivanov to discuss bilateral cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.

He will also hold talks with his Russian counterpart Rashid Nurgaliyev on bilateral issues.

With a 900-kilometer (560-mile) common border with Afghanistan, Iran has frequently been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.

Iran has spent more than $700 million to seal the borders and prevent the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries. Read More
