40 kids in hospital due to food poisoning, India

About 40 children of a government high school in Uduppampatti were admitted to the government hospital in Madurai on Tuesday allegedly due to food poisoning.

A senior doctor at the hospital said that the students developed the symptoms after they consumed the lunch provided at the school's noon meal centre. About 120 students had partaken of the food. The incident came to light only late in the evening, after six students developed nausea and stomach pain. They were then brought to the government hospital on Tuesday evening.

When the doctors insisted on checking the other children as well, many parents refused to allow their kids to be screened, saying that they did not show any symptom till evening. However, late in the night, more than 30 students developed stomach pain. Immediately, they were rushed to the government hospital at Melur, after which they were brought to the government Rajaji hospital. One of the students, Bhuvaneswari is being treated in the ICU.
