Storm downs trees, causing power outages in Northeastern Wisconsin - 31st July 2011

More than 34,000 Wisconsin Public Service Corp. customers from Green Bay to the north and west were without electricity on Saturday night after thunderstorms and high winds swept through the area during the afternoon.

Power lines, trees and traffic signals were reported down throughout the Green Bay area, and some small fires were caused by downed power lines, but most of the incidents were minor.

Five adults fell from two separate capsized sailboats into the bay of Green Bay near Longtail Point on the west side of the bay, said Chief Kyle Dupree, officer in charge of the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Green Bay. All were rescued by the Coast Guard or good Samaritans, he said. No injuries were reported.

Gusty winds whipped the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture grounds in Oshkosh canceling a portion of AirVenture's afternoon air show, but only minor issues were reported, according to EAA officials. Read More
