Tuan Dao, 37, a Father Facing Bankruptcy and Failed Marriage 'sets Fire to home Killing himself and his Five Children' - 27th Apr 2011

A father set fire to his home killing himself and his five children because he was so devastated by his bankruptcy and failed marriage, police believe.

Tuan Dao, 37, and the children, aged from six to 12 years, died when a fireball exploded 50ft in the air at the house in Vancouver, Washington.

They were named as 12-year-old Nolan, nine-year-old twins Noah and Jacob, Samantha, eight, and six-year-old Nathan.

Dao had been living in a tent in the dining room of the sparsely furnished house, which was under foreclosure, for a month after parting from his wife Lori.

She was living several miles away with their 13-year-old daughter and was said to be 'devastated' by the tragedy.

The charred bodies will be officially identified by dental records and DNA, but initial reports suggest they all died from skull fractures in the explosion at 1.30am on Easter Sunday morning.

Investigators believe Dao deliberately set the blaze by using liquid accelerants in several spots in the house. Read More
