Quake causes severe damage to schools in central Taiwan

Taipei, June 3 (CNA) A magnitude-6.3 earthquake that struck Taiwan Sunday has caused an estimated NT$10.31 million (US$344,058)-worth of damage to schools in central Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Education.

An initial survey showed that the temblor resulted in damage to buildings and facilities at 90 schools in central Taiwan -- mostly in Taichung and Nantou County -- the ministry said Monday.

Lugu Junior High School was closed Monday due to earthquake damage, the ministry said.

The temblor also left three people injured on two school campuses in Nantou County, the ministry added.
