N. Korea proposes talks with South

North Korea on Thursday proposed talks with South Korea about restarting operations at their shared manufacturing zone where Pyongyang suspended activity during recent tensions.

In a statement carried by state-run media, the North's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea suggested that the talks also cover the possibility of resuming cross-border tours at a North Korean mountain resort where a South Korean tourist was shot in 2008.

"Such humanitarian issues as the reunion of separated families and their relatives can be discussed at the talks, if necessary," the North Korean statement said.
