Sixth rabies case reported for Orange County

A raccoon attack on the Orange County side of Durham’s Eno River Trail on May 24 led to a dog’s injury and yet another rabies case.

It was the sixth reported rabies case for the county in 2013.

A resident was walking her dog when she heard a noise from under a nearby tree and a raccoon “aggressively approached,” according to the Orange County Animal Services Department. The dog defended itself, but the raccoon hurt the dog.
