Military Reservists: Small Firms Offered Cash

The Defence Secretary has announced small businesses will receive money to compensate for employees called up for service as part of the new Reservists force.

Philip Hammond revealed the move will be part of the White Paper due to be published in July, but an exact scheme has not been finalised.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) already covers some costs borne by small businesses such as money spent to recruit replacement workers and overtime costs other employees.

Mr Hammond said large employers embraced reservists in the ranks "because it's good for the business and because it's part of their corporate social responsibility agenda".
