The Toyota Hiace vehicle was spotted in the Wrexham area at 5pm on Monday - and then just 10 miles away in Deeside at 10.30pm.
Detectives want to find out where the van went in between these times and have appealed for members of the public to check private CCTV footage.
The silver Hiace 300 GS panel van with roof ladders has the registration CX06 ASV.
