CHIEF VETS TO DISCUSS LYSSAVIRUS DEATH

Chief vets from all states will hold a teleconference on Tuesday to discuss the death of a horse in Queensland from the deadly Australian Bat Lyssavirus (ABLV).

Biosecurity Queensland says as the disease has never been seen in horses before, the group will draw up guidelines and advice on management practices.

Chief Biosecurity Officer Jim Thompson says the guidelines will include quarantine restrictions for properties.

Dr Thompson says other animals, including horses, are on the Southern Darling Downs property where the horse died last week.
