Brandon Holt, 6, Dies After Being Shot By Boy, 4

A six-year-old boy has died after being shot with a rifle by his four-year-old neighbour while the two were playing outside.

Ocean County prosecutor's office spokesman Al Della Fave confirmed the death of Brandon Holt in hospital but declined to provide further details.

Authorities have been considering whether to charge anyone after the younger boy obtained a .22-caliber rifle from his family’s home in Toms River, New Jersey.

Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the children were outside the four-year-old's home when the boy went inside, got the rifle and shot the six-year-old about 15 metres away.
