De'Marquise Elkins: Mother and Aunt Arrested charged with lying to police as detectives uncover potential murder weapon in pond

The mother and aunt of a teen suspected of shooting dead a baby in his stroller were arrested yesterday on charges that they lied to police, as detectives discovered a potential murder weapon in a nearby pond.

De'Marquise Elkins, 17, is jailed on murder charges after the senseless slaying of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago last Thursday. The teen's mother, 36-year-old Karimah Elkins, and his aunt, 33-year-old Katrina Elkins, were booked into Georgia's Glynn County jail on Tuesday morning.

After their arrests, both women gave police new information that helped lead investigators to a small saltwater pond where they found a handgun, Glynn County police Chief Matt Doering said. He said the gun was being tested to determine whether it could be matched to the shooting.
