Beijing residents urged to stay indoors after sandstorm causes air quality in the city to reach dangerous levels

Sandstorms engulfed the capital and other cities in the region on Thursday leading warnings to residents to stay indoors or protect themselves with facemasks. Visibility was so poor that major roads were closed and flights were delayed or cancelled. There is growing anger about pollution levels as readings in the region showed the air quality had reached 'hazardous' levels.
