Tunisian Islamist asked to form government

Moncef Marzouki, the Tunisian president has asked Ali Larayedh, the interior minister in the outgoing cabinet to form a new government within two weeks.

Mr Larayedh, was nominated by Rachid Ghannouchi, the leader and founder of Nahda, the main group in the ruling coalition which has been leading the country since elections in October 2011. He is seen as belonging to a hardline wing of Nahda which is less willing to compromise with secular groups.
