Downing Street calls 'horsemeat' summit

Downing Street last night called an emergency meeting with retailers, suppliers and the Food Standards Agency amid fears of a “criminal conspiracy” as the horsemeat scandal spread across Europe.

French investigators believe suppliers to British retailers may have deliberately substituted beef for horsemeat in several products.
