Obama's gun control plan set to feature universal background checks for all buyers

With days to go before he presents his recommendations on gun control to President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden is reportedly centering his plan around universal background checks that would required of all gun buyers.

Mr Biden, who is leading a White House task force putting together the new legislation, told reporters Thursday he had found a 'surprising recurrence of suggestions' for "universal background checks" in meetings with interest groups.

The White House Friday addressed reports that it was backing away from a assault rifle ban -- another key component to the legislation package.
