Obama to take on Republicans over immigration with plan to attract skilled workers and give illegal immigrants amnesty

Barack Obama is set to make a new push for immigration reform - and hopes to solve a number of tricky issues at once.

The U.S. President plans to introduce a comprehensive reform bill which will enable illegal immigrants to earn citizenship, attract highly skilled workers and establish a guest-worker programme for temporary immigrants.

The immigration agenda represents a significant political risk for Mr Obama, who is also battling with Congress over gun control and fiscal policy.
