Flu epidemic continues to sweep the U.S. with 37 children dead

The U.S. is still in the grip of a flu epidemic but case are decreasing in many parts of the country, according to a Centers of Disease Control and Prevention report on data from the week of January 13 to 19.

There was a drop from 48 states reporting flu activity to 47 states reporting 'widespread' cases of influenza. In this report, 'widespread' means more than 50 per cent of geographic region is reporting flu activity.

Those numbers only report how far the flu has spread, not how severe it is.
