U.S. 'officially denies' plans to invade Canada (Because they're likely already doing so economically)

Canada, you can rest easy. Or can you? The U.S. State Department denies secret meetings with Mexico to plan an invasion of Canada.

How did it come to this? It started as a joke between a journalist and a spokeswoman for the State Department.

Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland fielded questions Tuesday about a closed-door "signing ceremony" between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa.

Nuland said she thought it was an update on the the Merida Initiative to fight organized crime.

"This isn't some secret thing … to invade Canada or something like that?" the journalist joked.

Nuland smiled and replied, "No, no, no. It’s not anything classified."

And with that, the Obama administration had official denied secretly planning to invade its neighbour to the north. NBC News was first to pick it up and U.S. blog Politico helped spread the word. more
