Mosque shooting, suicide bombing kills 7 at funeral in Russia

(CNN) -- At least six people were wounded when two masked men opened fire inside a mosque in Russia's North Caucasus region Saturday night, Russian officials said Sunday.

Also Saturday, a suicide bombing in Ingushetia killed at least seven people and wounded 11 who were attending the funeral of a police officer who was killed in another attack the same day, the state news agency Ria Novosti reported Sunday.

Russia blames the attacks on militants who want to establish an Islamic state in the Caucasus region.

The mosque attackers fled the scene, according to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

The shooting happened inside a Shiite mosque in the city of Khasavyurt, a predominantly Sunni region, Ria Novosti reported. Read More
