A pastor at a mega-church has been dismissed after allegations that he committed a grave ‘sin’ with a 16-year-old female church member.Dr Jack Schaap, 54, had been pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hammond in Indiana for 11 years, but was let go after a deacon saw a text on Schaap’s phone from the teenager, allegedly with a picture of the two of them kissing.
A board of deacons from the church voted to fire him, according to a public release from the church ‘due to a sin that has caused him to forfeit his right to be our pastor.’
In a sombre meeting at the church Wednesday night, the Board of Deacons said the shamed father-of-two confessed to having an affair with the young woman - a member of the church - when she was just 16.
Schaap had been counseling the teenage girl, one former member of First Baptist Trisha Kee told CBS Chicago. Read More

Absolutely disgusting. His parishioners are all over the internet calling for "mercy", "forgiveness" and "love" to be shown to this perv. No mention whatsoever of the victim, a legal minor. These wolves are everywhere now. Can't keep their pants zipped and usually it's with those too young to fight back.
Unfortunate shame disgrace and turmoil for Schaap, his wife and family. The teenage parishner and her family. How extremely sad for that church FBC. My question and comment for all deacons and elders, pastorial staff, anyone serving involved in similar circumstances, will you please resign before tradegedy strikes. This needs to be a sober warning to us all and how we live our lives as followers of Christ. His mercy endures forever. His grace goes beyond our failures. Those of you who would cast the first stone, take the blank out of your own eye.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved members. Shame, turmoil, and a deep sadness for Jack and Cindy Schaap the teenage girl, his family and all FBC Hammond members. With porn as widespread as it is I'm afraid these stories will become common place. Our society has become accepting of activities of low moral lifestyles. I will admit I watched his sermons frequently and thought very highly of what I thought was a man with a solid moral compass. I'm saddened, disappointed, this was jaw dropping. I heard a figure of 70% of evangelicals view internet porn frequently.
First Baptist Church of Hammond did the right thing firing him immediately after catching him with his pants down. However, from a spiritual perspective, why is it that the real godly leaders of this church didn't sense that this guy was off course when he used sexual symbolism to describe the relationship between the believer and Christ. Why didn't they cry foul when he questioned the inerrancy of the King James Bible? Why did Jack Hyles name this successor if he was the spiritual powerhouse that everyone said he was? How could anyone go to these men for advice and counseling when they've made the wrong decision every time? I realize the carnival that Jack Hyles started 40 years ago is just now ending and you're finally waking up to the fact that the church has many unsaved because of decision salvation. Moreover the church has totally turned its back on old-fashioned repentance. The preoccupation with sex in the sermons of both Jack Hyles and Jack Schaap is very disturbing, and the other sermons focused on cult-like loyalty, personal emotions, and trying to use the pulpit as a means of mind control is without a doubt very heretical.
Wow!
Which one of you will be next? love covers a multitude of sin. Hate points fingers.
This is unfortunate but how dare any of us think that we are above reproach. If He has asked God for forgiveness God will forgive him then why can't we? There is consequences I'm all for that but let's stop crucifying the man and pray for him and his family.
Ok so for those of you who lump FBC in with evangelicals...you need to see what doctrine evangelicals hold to. FBC is an old fashioned, fundamental, independent, KJV Bible preaching, old fashioned hymn singing church with Baptist distinctives. I'm not a member there, but I have visited and looked into their beliefs. I went soul winning with a group of them one Saturday. Just to see how they believe or don't believe on repentance. Every time I saw someone bow their head in prayer, it was because they knew they were a sinner and without the sinnless blood of Jesus had no hope for eternity in Heaven. Those people in the Chicago area know that something is missing in their lives and they're looking for the answer. People in well to do areas who have just about everything they want, arent as eager to get saved. They think they are good enough and don't need Christ. But if they were honest with themselves, during their quiet innermost thoughts, they know they are missing something in their lives too. Although I do not agree with what Schaap did, that young girl was old enough to know what taking place. It wasn't like it caught her off surprise. She and Schaap planned it. I'm just saying....don't forget all the good that has been done through that ministry because of some bad mistakes of one or two people in leadership. God knows all of your secret sin, but we don't see Him running around pointing out your faults to everyone either.
Too bad. You he still belongs to God and God will deal with him. Every man's weakness gets tested. Just like David you have to Run! The law is 16 years old. but she was young and curious as to how all this happen. He was charged with taking her over state lines and that is against the law. Leaders need to stop this wrong doing, and step down if you're going to fall. The FBC has a history of workers doing sexual stuff. Jack Hyles himself took another man's wife! This is a weakness every guy has...RUN!! What did joseph do?? RUN!! The girl knew what was up and knew right rom wrong. Works both way here...RUN!! Dont let this man do what he wants!! REport him!!! But she didn't!!! Schaap suppose to be the wise one...instead acted like a FOOL!!
