Higher Temperature Behind Fish Kill in Ghannouch Beach in Tunisia

Gabes — The overgrowth of some algae due to rising temperature was behind the smothering of fish which had stranded on the beach of Ghannouch in the past days.

This observation was made after the analyses carried out Friday on fish floating on the beach of this delegation in laboratories of the National Institute of Sea Sciences and Technologies.

Regional authorities had ordered to take samples of these fish to determine the cause of this incident.

Results of the analyses belie information on the infiltration of ammonia from a commercial ship imported by the Tunisian Chemical Group. This ship had docked at the commercial port of Gabes last August 10. Source
