French police hunt for child rapist targeting camp sites in southern France

A serial child rapist is triggering panic among tourists at campsites in southern France.

The sex attacker has struck seven times in recent weeks in the picturesque Ardeche region, which attracts thousands of Britons every summer.

The victims have all been girls aged between seven and 12, who have been molested or raped in their tents at night over the past six weeks.

Police believe the same man has carried out all the attacks by sneaking onto campsites in the evening posing as a tourist.

The first attack took place in late June and the most recent occured on a campsite near the town of Saint-Didier-sous-Aubenas on Wednesday night.

Two of the victims were Dutch sisters aged ten and 11 who were both attacked as they slept side by side.

It is not known if any of the victims were British and no identities have been released for legal reasons.

A local police spokesman said: 'All the attacks have taken place within 20 kilometres of each other, and the modus operandi is always the same. Read More
