David Simpson accused of African massacre, tells of his joy at being released from jail after it was stormed by rioters

A British safari pilot imprisoned in Africa on charges of using black magic to commit mass murder has told of his joy at being freed after a riot in the jail.

David Simpson was the only inmate remaining out of 700 when an angry mob stormed the squalid prison in the Central African Republic where he has been held for four months.

Now has been transferred to house arrest and told friends on Facebook: 'I am still officially a prisoner but there is no prison to be locked up in. So for now I am a free man!'

The 24-year-old Briton feared for his life as rioters beat, robbed and stripped him of his clothes at Ngaragba Central Prison.

Shaken and bruised, he is recovering in a safehouse in the capital Bangui as he waits for the authorities in the lawless African state to determine his fate. Read More
