Chippenham Fire Death: Charred remains of woman in 40s found under pile of burning debris in supermarket car park

Police were today investigating after the charred remains of a woman in her 40s were found under a pile of burning debris following a fire in a supermarket car park.

A police dog handler on a routine patrol spotted the blaze, in the car park of Sainsbury’s, in Chippenham, Wilts, at around 3am on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire - but police discovered the body lying in the ashes.

Police initially said the body was too badly burnt to identify the gender or age, but have since said she is a white woman aged at least 40.

As police investigated the circumstances surrounding the grim discovery, detectives said they want to speak to a young couple seen holding hands in the supermarket car park. Read More
