Roberto Laudisio Curti Family breaks silence

The family of a young Brazilian man who died after being in Sydney earlier this year is still struggling to come to terms with his death.

Roberto Laudisio Curti's friends and co-workers in Australia are also still asking questions about why the 21-year-old had to die.

All have told ABC's 7:30 program of a polite, fun-loving young man who was determined to learn English on his study trip Down Under.

The events leading up to his death on March 18 are unclear. It is believed Roberto spent much of the afternoon playing soccer with his local club in Balmain, before heading out on the town with friends.

But just before dawn he was in the city alone. Shortly after 5:00am police were called to a convenience store in King street over an attempted robbery.

Soon after, security camera footage shows six police pursuing Roberto around the corner in Pitt Street. He was sprayed with capsicum spray and then tasered three times before he died. Read More
