Police have defended their handling of a murder suicide in Darwin involving two children

The mother of the children who were killed on Tuesday rang police the night before their bodies were found, concerned they had not returned from a custodial visit.

But officers did not start looking for the children until the next morning.

Michael Chisholm, his four year-old son Julian, and eight-year-old daughter Aaliyah Webb were later found dead in a suburban unit.

Commander Richard Bryson says it is standard procedure not to look for the children immediately. Read More
