Wintry Weather Cuts Power To More than 10000 Homes in the North of England

About 10,000 homes in the north of England are without power after strong winds and ice brought down lines.

Northern Powergrid said the cuts had affected buildings between Carlisle and Newcastle.
Faults have been reported at about 200 substations, it said.

Heavy snow in Scotland had left 11,000 Scottish Hydro customers without electricity on Tuesday morning but most have already been reconnected.
