A coroner warned four years ago that the Warrior armoured vehicle needed better protection against roadside bombs after four soldiers were killed in a blast.But it was not until last year that the Ministry of Defence announced a £1billion upgrade.
In October, David Cameron pledged extra investment to ensure the Warriors could be used on operations until at least 2040.
Defence experts described the decision as ‘long overdue’ after three planned improvements to the fleet had been cancelled over the previous decade owing to lack of funding.
