'Rat Attacks NHS Patient': Probe Launched

A complaint has been launched against an NHS trust after a family claimed a 42-year-old patient was attacked by a rat as he lay sedated in his hospital bed.

The family of Jason Ketley say he was bitten repeatedly by the rodent shortly after going to bed in a specialist care unit at St Ebba's hospital in Epsom, Surrey, last November.

The Surrey Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust described the incident as "genuinely shocking", and revealed an investigation has been launched.

Jo Young, director of quality and nursing at the Trust, said the complaint, launched by Mr Ketley's mother Pat Boardman, was being taken "extremely seriously".

She said Trust records show that a mouse was seen in the hospital at the time, but said the investigation was on-going. Read More
