6.8 Magnitude Earthquake NEGROS - CEBU REGION, PHILIPPINES - 6th Feb 2012

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has struck the Negros - Cebu Region, Philippines at a depth of 46.6 km (29 miles), the quake hit at 03:49:16 UTC Monday 6th February 2012
The epicenter was 70 km (44 miles) North of Dumaguete, Negros, Philippines
Local Tsunami Warning Issued - No Reports of Damage or Injuries at this time

EVALUATION

NO DESTRUCTIVE WIDESPREAD TSUNAMI THREAT EXISTS BASED ON
HISTORICAL EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI DATA.

HOWEVER - EARTHQUAKES OF THIS SIZE SOMETIMES GENERATE LOCAL
TSUNAMIS THAT CAN BE DESTRUCTIVE ALONG COASTS LOCATED WITHIN
A HUNDRED KILOMETERS OF THE EARTHQUAKE EPICENTER. AUTHORITIES
IN THE REGION OF THE EPICENTER SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS
POSSIBILITY AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION.
