Police investigate fake virus parcel at Government Center South building in Downtown Indianapolis

Indiana State Police are investigating who mailed a fake biological weapon to the Indiana Government Center South building in Downtown Indianapolis, but they say it posed no threat to the public.

About 30 state employees were evacuated Friday from the state's Department of Work Force Development offices, after a letter carrier delivered a package with a message saying it contained a contagious virus.

The package, which was found to be harmless, was delivered sometime after 9 a.m. Friday morning by the U.S. Postal Service and measured about 18-by-12-by-6 inches.

The investigation was conducted by the Indianapolis Fire Department, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Bomb Squad, and K-9 Bomb dogs from the IMPD and the Indiana State Police. Read More
