80 to 100 families evacuated from Turner; possibly for days, Washington

Flooding in Turner is so bad that much of the city is inaccessible, and officials say it will remain inaccessible for at least two days.

Turner Mayor Paul Thomas said the worst-flooded areas include downtown Turner and areas along Mill Creek. Flooding is so bad officials at the command center - city hall - discussed using dump trucks to evacuate residents.

In the end, residents were gathered at city hall then transported by bus to Corban University. Thomas said most evacuations had been completed by about noon, and estimated 80 to 100 families were moved from their homes because of flooding.

Frank and Trish Shepherd, who live on Bethel Loop SE along the creek in Turner, didn’t know where they would stay tonight. They sheltered temporarily at Corban and were moved this afternoon to a Red Cross shelter. Read More
