Palestinian firefighters tackle huge blaze in smuggling tunnel used to secret goods into the Gaza Strip - 21st Nov 2011

This is the dramatic moment Palestinians tried to extinguish a huge fire which ripped through a smuggling tunnel in the Gaza Strip today.

The blaze, which happened in the town of Rafah on the border with Egypt, is believed to have been started accidentally.

The tunnels have been used to get goods into the Gaza strip since 2007 when the Israelis stepped up a blockade.

They provide much needed supplies - although the Egyptians have vowed to clamp down on things being secreted across the border.

Although the blaze is believed to have been started accidentally the exact cause is unknown.

There are hundreds of tunnels in the area which are used to get building materials, food, and weapons across the border. Read More
