Tony Blair held 'secret meetings' with Gaddafi in the months before Lockerbie bomber was released - 18th Sept 2011

Tony Blair is today facing mounting pressure to explain his relationship with Colonel Gaddafi and his role in the early release of the Lockerbie bomber.

It has emerged that the former prime minister held secret talks with the ousted Libyan despot twice in the months before the release of the Lockerbie bomber.

The Sunday Telegraph reported that documents discovered in Tripoli showed that Gaddafi had arranged to fly Mr Blair on his private jet for meetings in June 2008 and April 2009.

The talks came at a time when Libya was threatening to sever all commercial links with Britain if Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was not released from jail.

Megrahi was being held in a Scottish prison after being convicted of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 - Britain's worst ever terror attack in which 270 people died. Read More
