Storm brings heavy rain, flooding Toronto roads, Canada - 30th Sept 2011

Heavy rain from a fall thunderstorm was responsible for flooding in several east Toronto neighbourhoods early Friday morning.

Areas of Scarborough were among the hardest hit when a thunderstorm rolled through the city, bringing downpours, intense lightning and thunder, starting around 3 a.m.

Scattered power outages were reported across the city.

The rain caused some problems for a driver whose car became partly submerged in water that flooded Janray Drive, near Scarborough Gold Club Road and Lawrence Avenue East. The man's car was later towed away once water levels receded.

Footage from a CP24 viewer showed water shooting out of a storm drain like a geyser near Coxwell Avenue and Springdale Boulevard.

At one point, water from an overflowing creek left a stretch of Midland Avenue submerged. Midland is open again between Romulus Drive and Tara Avenue.

Guildwood Parkway was closed for a few hours between Shubert Drive and Poplar Road because of flooding.

In downtown Toronto, flooding was reported on Lower Simcoe Street. Read More
