Jonathan Haynes a Serial Rapist Jailed Over Attacks On Teens - 8th Sept 2011

A former soldier who targeted teenage girls during a six-month campaign of rapes has been given an indefinite jail sentence.

Jonathan Haynes, of Northampton, was described by Judge Neil Ford QC, the Recorder of Bristol, as a "clever and cunning predator".

The first attack saw him abduct a 16-year-old girl in Chippenham as she returned from a nightclub.

Haynes, who was based at nearby Buckley Barracks, took her in his car to a secluded location before subjecting her to an horrific rape.

Bristol Crown Court heard that two weeks later the 30-year-old former lance corporal visited his on-off girlfriend in Glamorgan, but could not find her.

In a fit of anger he entered the room of a female student he did not know, in a university halls of residence, before raping her.

Haynes also attempted to abduct two 14-year-old girls from a nearby country lane, but the pair managed to escape after fighting him off.

His final attack came after another few weeks, when he picked up girl in Chippenham and raped her at a secluded location he had taken her to.

The judge praised the courage of Haynes' victims.

The defendant was found guilty of six counts of rape, two of kidnap and two of attempted kidnap. He must serve a minimum of 12 years in prison. Source
