A wildfire forced the evacuation of about 1,000 people from their homes overnight on the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza, officials said Monday.
The evacuations took place in Roca Llisa in the east of the island, where some houses were threatened by flames. Those residents evacuated were lodged by friends or relatives and in a sports hall.
The fire broke out in a forested area from an unknown source. Firefighters and soldiers were battling the flames with the help of helicopters.
