Fatal Bee attack in Arazone leaves ONE man dead and further 2 Injured - 8th Sept 2011

A bee attack left one man dead and two others injured in Wilhoit on Thursday afternoon while they were working on a house.

Around 12:15 p.m., the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office were called to the 8000 block of West Carnaby Lane, where three people were working on a home, said Dwight D'Evelyn, a Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Wilhoit is an unincorporated community off Arizona 89 south of Prescott.

Walter Coughran, 65, of Kirkland ran to a neighbor's home and collapsed on the porch after the swarm of bees attacked. Coughran died before help arrived. The cause of his death is unknown pending an autopsy report, D'Evelyn said.

A 48-year-old worker suffered severe stings and was taken to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center, while the third worker was treated immediately and released.

The homeowner was not the house at the time of the attack.

The three workers and homeowner knew there was a bee hive in or around a dog house located on the property, D'Evelyn said.

It was unclear what might have aggravated the bees. Source
