Seaside horror as grandmother loses leg after being thrown from log flume ride with girl, 4 - 29th Aug 2011

A grandmother has lost her leg after a freak fun fair accident in which she and her four-year-old granddaughter were 'flipped' out of a log flume ride when it jammed.

The woman, who is in her sixties, and the girl were thrown from the Jungle River log flume on the seafront at Bridlington in East Yorkshire yesterday afternoon.

It is believed the ride did not have enough water in it, causing the carriage to stick and then jolt them out.

Hundreds of shocked holidaymakers watched in horror as the woman was airlifted to hospital - her leg may have been amputated before she was flown to Hull Royal Infirmary

Her granddaughter was taken to Scarborough Hospital suffering cuts and bruises to her legs.

An investigation into the safety of the funfair is now under way. Read More
